Upper Anselm’s postern and postern courtyard
The Anselm Gate was reached from the interior of the fortress via the Anselm Poterne, a vaulted and covered path. The first poterne of the fortification, with a straight course to the gate, was probably already built with the bastioned city wall around 1620. In the years 1828/29, two poterne sections that had been moved in position were largely rebuilt. The lower part of the poterne was moved further to the south in order to prevent direct fire from penetrating it.
