The new accessible panorama trail, which winds its way up Petersberg hill from Erfurt’s cathedral square, makes the climb to the citadel a real pleasure. Every bend in the 600-metre path reveals a stunning new view of the city and cathedral.
To reach the fortress plateau, you can either take the glass lift or the stairs (lift operates daily from 9am to 9pm).
Once at the top, you can explore the fortress grounds and visit the various exhibitions.
Travelling by coach
Groups travelling by coach can be dropped off and picked up at Domplatz/Lauentor, which is located at the foot of the panorama trail. Please note, however, that there is no turning area here.
Alternatively, passengers can disembark and board coaches at the rear of Petersberg Citadel. Here, there is a turning circle, which can be accessed from Petersberg Strasse (coming from Biereyestrasse).
Public toilets are located at both stops.
Coaches can park at the ‘Tor zur Stadt Erfurt’ coach and motorhome park behind the exhibition centre (Messe) at Gothaer Strasse 30.
