Failure and escape pots
The sally port was a concealed exit from the fortifications, built into the existing curtain wall in the course of the 18th century. It was used for escaping from the citadel, for clandestine reconnaissance or for surprise escapes. Around 1830 the poterne was provided with a new upper entrance portal. In 1999/2000 the buried escape poterne could be uncovered again and is today another entrance to the fortress.
