Anselm’s gate and lower Anselm’s postern
The Anselm Gate served as a gate on the field side of the fortress and as a sally port. It was reached from the fortress via the Anselm Poterne, a covered path. The lower part of the poterne was reconstructed in 1828/29 in place of an older course further north. After the loss of fortification status in 1873, the Anselm Gate and associated poterne were walled up and buried. In the course of fundamental renovation work, the structures were uncovered and restored from 1998 to 2005.
