Floor plan of the Corpus Christi Chapel
At the eastern end of the monastery cemetery was the Corpus Christi Chapel, consecrated in 1304. This cemetery chapel (so-called Karner) was a rectangular two-storey building with a tower. The monks used the upper floor as a prayer room and the lower vault as an ossuary. When the fortress wall collapsed at this point in 1735, it took the chapel with it - only the small tower remained standing. A new baroque chapel was built on its west side. It is said that Napoleon later donated the old chapel tower to the parish church in Dittelstedt, where it has served as a bell tower since 1812. Whether the chapel was removed when the tower was dismantled or only after the bombardment of the fortress in 1813 is not known. Since 2013, its ground plans have been visible in the ground.
