Guided tour over and through the Petersberg Citadel
Experience an atmospheric tour in the passageways within the citadel’s formidable walls accompanied by our expert guide. Opening up the Petersberg Fortress in Erfurt has been one oft he most costly and complex but also undoubtedly one oft he most worthwile preservation projects of our times.
You start at the visitor centre of the Commander’s House. From there you descend into the narrow winding corridors with numerous steps. This tour is not suitable for people with limited mobility. We recommend good shoes and warm clothing. The temperature in Petersberg Fortress is around 10°C to 15°C all year round.

Fortress fare
Optional extra: After a tour of the listening tunnels or a visit to the exhibition at the Commander’s House, you might like to try some traditional fortress fare on the plateau of the citadel. This hearty, rustic snack consists of delicious fortress bread topped with a lard and crackling spread plus gherkin, and is accompanied by a glass of red wine (or mulled wine in winter).
