Former monastery church of St. Peter and Paul
It was destroyed, misappropriated and robbed of its dignity - the monastery church of St. Peter and Paul. After secularisation, Prussian troops converted it into a provisions store in 1820. Recently, the former place of worship regained some of its former dignity by partially removing the storage floors. The church was built about 900 years ago on what was then the highest elevation within Erfurt's city walls, the Petersberg. The pillar basilica of the former Benedictine monastery followed the model of the Hirsau school. Inside, some of the oldest wall paintings in Thuringia have been preserved.
Partially renovated for the BUGA 2021, it will once again be the focal point of Petersberg and used for exhibitions and events.
